2007 Vin Rosé
Appellation: Solano County Green Valley
Vineyard: The Wirth Ranch -The grapes come from a vineyard on a Southern facing slope. These dry farmed vines are approximately 60 years old and head pruned.
Vintage: The less-than-usual amount of rain during the 2007 winter, in some cases down by about one-third, affected both the timing and the size of the vintage. It caused an early budbreak, which meant that even though harvest began in mid-August for some grapes the growing season was long enough for the grapes to fully ripen. It also led in some cases to smaller berry size that resulted in highly concentrated fruit. The year didn’t have the usual heat spikes in August or September, and the weather turned cool and even chilly in September, followed by periodic rainstorms.
Composition: 100% Valdiguie (aka Napa Gamay)
Vinification: Grapes were hand sorted and then crushed and left to sit on the skins for 2-4 hours. It was then pressed and put into a tank for primary fermentation. Lees were removed then transferred to stainless steel barrels to develop for 7 months. The wine has been fined then cold stabilized and moderately filtered.
Tasting Notes: A clean and crisp wine that offers fresh strawberries along with citrus aromas and flavors. It is bone dry with hints of minerality and bright acidity. Serve chilled.
