2006 Petit Verdot
Vineyard: The Petit Verdot comes from a small vineyard located just east of Lodi.
Vintage: The year started off with heavy long winter and spring rains, impeding bud break a couple weeks. Once the sunny weather began the abundant water in the ground led to vigorous growth. A relatively cool late summer and early fall slowed ripening.
Composition: 100% Petit Verdot
Vinification: Grapes were hand sorted, de-stemmed and transferred to 1-ton open bins where it underwent primary fermentation. The must was punched down by hand at least 2 times a day. The wine was aged in a mixture of neutral French and American oak barrels for 12 months. The Petit Verdot was minimally filtered at bottling.
Tasting Notes: A deep violet colored wine with aromas of smoke, cedar, white pepper and black plums along with floral notes and a dash of marjoram. Moderately full bodied on the palate with soft and supple lingering tannins that accompanies flavors of plums with hints of cedar and licorice. Pairs well with robust meats, barbeque, and aged cheeses. Try with braised lamb shank, barbequed ribs or wild boar stew.
